Santigron
Visit Santigron to enjoy the beautiful culture, nature, and history of the Maroon community in Suriname
On the right bank of the Saramacca River, in a wooded area, lies the traditional Maroon village of Santigron (in Wanica district).
It is a mixed village, with a variety of Maroon cultures.
The residents live so close to Paramaribo (60 km), but in addition to the influences of the city, they maintain their traditions
The village of Santigron was founded around 1900 after the abolition of slavery. The Sarammacan Tangiba Kwao founded it.
